CREATIVE PROCESS:

While filming these high school athletes, I wanted to re-humanize them, to remind people that they are watching humans compete, not just helmets and jersey numbers. Football is a sport where the equipment is seen first because it’s a physical sport that requires protection. These uniforms can hide the faces of the humans behind them, making it easier for people to forget there are real athletes with real faces. So I started the video with close-up shots of the athletes’ faces before they put on their helmets to set the tone. One of my favorite videos to shoot and edit.
